More details

Questions, answered.

The quick stuff that didn't fit in the rest of the page.

  • What is Relay?

Relay is a beautiful music player for your Plex library. It connects directly to your Plex server and plays the music you already own, with thoughtful design that puts albums and rediscovery first.

  • Do I need a Plex account?

Yes. Relay is built on top of Plex. You sign in with your Plex account and Relay connects to the music library on your Plex server. If you don't have one yet, you can set one up for free at plex.tv.

  • Do I need Plex Pass?

Yes, for now. Relay relies on Plex features that currently require Plex Pass. More to come on that.

  • Does Relay host or upload any of my music?

No. Relay only plays music from your own Plex server. We don't host a catalog and we don't upload your files anywhere. Your library stays where it always was: on your server.

  • What happens to my music if I stop using Relay?

Nothing. Your music stays on your server, in its original files, exactly where it was. Relay is the player, not the place your collection lives.

  • How is Relay different from the Plex app?

Plex is built for video first, and the music experience reflects that. Relay is music only. Albums lead, the chrome stays out of the way, and every screen is designed for listening.

  • Which devices is Relay on?

Relay will be available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Windows, Linux, and the web.

  • Does Relay work outside my home?

Yes. As long as your Plex server is reachable remotely, Relay can stream your library from wherever you are. It isn’t limited to your local network.

  • Will Relay work offline?

Yes. You can download albums and tracks to your device for flights, basements, back roads, or anywhere your server isn't reachable. Everything plays the same whether you're online or off.

  • How much will Relay cost?

Pricing isn't live yet. The closed beta is free. Once the apps ship we'll publish pricing details. Join the beta above and we'll keep you in the loop.
