Usage Guide
This guide describes how Relay is intended to be used, what you need for a good experience, and practices that keep your library and devices safe. It supplements the Terms of Service. For what information Relay collects and how long it is kept, see the Privacy and Data Retention Policy.
What Relay is for
Relay is an album-first music player built around your own Plex music library. Use it to browse and play music you are entitled to access through your Plex account, typically media you own or have licensed.
Relay does not host your library as a music catalog. Playback and library content come from the Plex services and libraries you choose to use.
What you need
- A Plex account and legitimate access to a Plex Media Server (or Plex-provided access) you are allowed to use
- A network connection suitable for streaming or syncing from your library
- A currently supported platform and OS version as listed on Relay’s website or download page
Your content and responsibility
Relay displays and plays what your Plex server exposes to your account. You are responsible for the legality of your media, for complying with Plex’s terms, and for respecting copyright and licensing where you live.
Sign-in and security
- Use strong passwords and device security features (passcode, biometrics) where available
- Sign out on shared devices if others should not access your library
- Do not share account or device credentials in a way that violates Plex’s or your own policies
Acceptable use
Use Relay in line with the Terms of Service. In particular:
- Do not use Relay to infringe intellectual property or to distribute content you do not have rights to
- Do not interfere with Relay, Plex, or other users’ services
- Do not rely on Relay for life-safety or critical systems. It is a consumer music app
Updates and changes
Relay may provide software updates through its supported distribution and update mechanisms to fix issues, add features, or meet platform requirements. Some behavior may depend on Plex APIs or server capabilities; those can change outside Relay’s control.
